Those who know me well know I suffer from the debilitating syndrome known as ‘itchy feet’.
Not long after my last jaunt around Central and South America, my yearning to jet off again was cranked up in 2015.
A new job did little to satisfy my growing wanderlust and being desk bound again after having the freedom and independence to explore for a year left me with post-travel blues.
And so it is that I find myself back in Colombia again this week specifically the city of Medellin infamous for drug lord Pablo Escobar who built his dynasty here in the 1990’s.
Medellin was by far my most favourite city in my travels. Perhaps it was the charming Paisa people, the gorgeous moderate climate, fantastic travel infrastructure, the stunning women or a combination of all the above. Nevertheless, I’ve set up shop and have earmarked 3 months to get to know the city and culture better.
To that end, I’ve been ramping up my Spanish learning to integrate into society here determined not to be another ‘stick out like a sore thumb’ gringo.
It’s not all fun and games though! I’m planning to continue writing and am working on a third novel at the moment, with a view to self-publishing at the end of the year after seeking proofreader and an editor.
I had forgotten how beautiful the weather is here and having only arrived a few days ago have already developed a nice farmer’s tan which the future Mrs Vergara-Reid will no doubt appreciate!
